Course overview

Every Cisco and Microsoft Teams voice problem eventually becomes a SIP problem. This course gives you a vendor-neutral, engineer-level understanding of SIP, SDP, RTP and the network services that voice depends on.

You will read real SIP traces line by line, build call flows with open-source tools, and learn the troubleshooting method our instructors use on production trunks.

Who this course is for

  • Network engineers moving into voice
  • Helpdesk and NOC engineers supporting UC
  • Students starting a collaboration career
  • Teams administrators new to telephony

Prerequisites

  • Basic IP networking (CCNA-level subnetting and routing helpful)
  • Comfort with a command line

Training duration

14 h video + 10 h labs, about 3 weeks at 6–8 hours per week.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain SIP methods, responses, dialogs and transactions
  • Read SDP offer/answer and diagnose codec and media mismatches
  • Describe RTP/RTCP, jitter, latency and packet-loss impact on MOS
  • Compare G.711, G.722, G.729, Opus and SILK use cases
  • Apply DSCP marking and queuing for voice and video
  • Troubleshoot one-way audio, NAT and early-media issues from packet captures
